Overlooking the beautiful 770 acre Lac de Chambon from its large shaded terrace, with its own direct access and private mooring, Les Chênes offers the perfect self-catering French country holiday.
The property sleeps eight in the comfort of bespoke, hand made oak beds. There are three bedrooms and a mezzanine sleeping area, a bathroom and another shower room, two separate water closets, wonderful hand made oak kitchen, with built in brick barbecue, large open plan sitting and dining area with an open fire, a scullery with dishwasher and a washing machine.
There are beaches and bars within three kilometres and the nearest town with all the necessary amenities is five minutes by car.
There is a rowing boat for fishing (the most recent regional eliminator for the French national carp fishing competition was held at Lac de Chambon), and a canoe for messing about on the water. There is a table tennis table. Nearby activities include sailing, water skiing, tennis, horse-riding and golf.
The lake is surrounded by mountain biking and walking trails. The beautiful countryside is dotted with medieval villages, market towns and castles. The chateaux of the Loire valley lie an hour and a half to the North, with Futuroscope the same distance to the West.
The owner, Zoe, is a fully qualified, experienced language teacher and can offer tuition in French and German. Throughout July and August weekly sailing and wind surfing courses are held on the lake and fishing courses run throughout the summer for children aged eight years and upwards.
If your interest is in painting, a highly respected local artist can introduce you to the rich artistic heritage of this corner of La France Profonde.
To stay in touch there is an internet connection and colour satellite flat screen television with dvd.
An hour's drive from Limoges airport and closer to Calais than the Dordogne, whatever you are looking for in a French country holiday, you can't beat Les Chênes.
Pets are allowed.
